Personal Protection Dogs

Personal protection dogs are selected from breeds known for their intelligence, reliability and even temperament. The most obvious candidate is the German Shepherd. Other suitable breeds are Belgian Malinois, Doberman, even Labradors, Mastiffs and Rottweilers have been known to make the grade.

We train them to accurately recognise human behaviours. They can distinguish between normal and aggressive activity, hence they accept people not posing a threat to their own "family". Not all candidates from any single breed are suited for such a role and they are thoroughly vetted before training even begins.

During the training period as much emphasis is put upon teaching the dog to behave well as a family pet as to how to protect family members from aggressive behaviour. This process is known as socialising the dog.

Before selecting a dog for training, we must all recognise that not all human beings are suited or have appropriate lifestyles to be able to care for such animals and to tend to their fitness and welfare. You will need training in how to handle a highly trained dog as well as every aspect of its feeding, exercise and medical needs.
